Leave your home airport for Haneda Airport in Tokyo! With the time change, you'll most likely arrive on November 2nd.
Arrive at Haneda Airport in Tokyo. Sheri will meet you as you exit the secured area. We'll stay right at the Haneda airport so you can rest upon arrival!
"Meet and Greet/safety meeting in the morning. We'll then travel into Tokyo, where we'll visit the National Art Center, and see the Nitten exhibition, featuring the top Japanese artists. Stay in Roppongi.
Visit gorgeous the beautiful mountain town of Hakone. We'll go to the gorgeous Okada Museum of Art. We'll stay at a beautiful hotel with an onsen in Odawara and enjoy wonderful meals there.
Hands-on workshop with Lisa Clague! We'll take our inspiration from all the incredible sights of Japan, and create small sculptural work with clay with Lisa's expertise and demonstrations. Stay in Odawara.
After another great day of Lisa's workshop in Odawara. There's so much to see and do around the hotel, which is right next to the station. This is Masaki who will assist our group!
This is a picture of the area in front of the hotel where there are great restaurants, bakery, coffee shops, and great Japanese gift shops. We'll have another workshop day with Lisa.
We'll wrap up the workshop in the afternoon and Masaki will bisque fire them while we go on an amazing tour of Japan. We'll collect the work at the end of the tour. Travel to Utsunomiya.
We'll take a day trip to Mashiko Pottery Town, and visit the Hamada Museum, and tour around seeing awesome ceramic related sights.
We'll take a day trip to the unbelievable temples and shrines of Nikko. They are gorgeous and diverse. Travel to Kyoto that night.
We'll have a full day of sightseeing in Kyoto on a chartered bus with our tour guide Seita. We'll visit the Robert Yellin Gallery, then the Raku Museum, the Golden Pavilion and the Nijo Castle. There's so much to see and do in Kyoto!
We'll take a charter bus to Shigaraki for the day on a guided tour of various well-known potters as well as the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park and pottery supply shop.
We'll have another charter bus tour of Kyoto with Seita, visiting the beautiful Kiyomizudera Temple, the Kyoto Ceramics Center, then go see a demo at the Unrakugama studio in the Kiyomizu-yaki area of Kyoto where there are numerous pottery galleries, stores and studios. Nishiki market afterwards.
Free time in Kyoto in the morning to do some shopping, or relaxing! Then we'll travel back to Tokyo, stopping in Odawara to pick up our bisque sculptures from the workshop. We'll stay at a hotel airport at Haneda that night so you can fly home the next day at any time.

This carefully planned tour is action packed! We'll be hopping on and off trains, busses, subways, at times with our luggage. Not recommended for people with mobility issues or physical fitness limitations. We'll be walking a lot while touring.
All ages 20 and up are welcome! Maximum group size is 18.
Lisa Clague is an internationally known ceramic sculptor. She received her BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art and her MFA from California College of Arts and Crafts. She has been the recipient of the North Carolina Arts Council Fellowship and twice received the Virginia Groot Foundation Grant. She has taught fantastic workshops all over the country, and is extremely informative!
This tour is still being planned and subject to change. Start and End dates are set, but daily itinerary may change according to the availability of tour guides, places being open, and travel logistics.
Upon registration, you'll receive a lot of information about what to expect, pack, and prepare for while on the trip. Sheri is accessible and happy to answer all your questions and will provide a lot of "Japan Tips" that she's learned from all of the great trips she's taken to Japan! She's a professor emeritus of ceramics, so she loves sharing information, and will provide all the necessary paperwork too.
